R25 Structural Biology Training Program
A mentored research training program run by Dr. Davis and colleagues, pairing coursework in structural methods with hands-on bench and computational experience across the lab's active cryo-EM and cryo-ET projects.

Eligibility
- • Undergraduate, graduate, postbaccalaureate, or early postdoctoral trainees.
- • Interest in structural biology, biophysics, or precision health research.
- • Priority given to candidates from backgrounds underrepresented in biomedical research, per NIH R25 program goals.
- • No prior cryo-EM or structural biology experience required.
Program Structure
A two-phase design carrying trainees from coursework to an independent, mentored research project.
Coursework & Rotations

Structural Methods Coursework
Didactic training in protein biochemistry, cryo-EM/cryo-ET theory, and computational structural biology.

Lab Rotations
Short rotations across the lab's active workflows — protein purification, grid preparation, data processing, and model building.

Responsible Conduct of Research
Data management, reproducibility, and research ethics training, as required for NIH-funded trainees.
Independent Project

Individual Development Plan
Trainee and mentor set project scope, milestones, and career goals at the start of the appointment.

One-on-One Mentorship
Paired with a faculty or senior scientist mentor for the duration of the project, with regular progress check-ins.

Presentation & Dissemination
Trainees present findings at a capstone symposium and are supported toward conference presentation or co-authorship.
